Program Notes Summary by Music Director, Dr. David Rentz

A yearly pops concert is always one of the orchestra’s favorite performances—it gives the musicians the chance to let loose a little, as well, perhaps, as to play to a slightly different audience than usual. OCofOC is excited to present a variety of Broadway and movie music, some older (“You Made Me Love You,” first recorded by Al Jolson in 1913) and some newer (“Let It Go” from Frozen, a 2013 hit). Some of the music is propelled by rhythm (Theme from Mission Impossible), other songs by unforgettable melodies (“Over the Rainbow”), but what all of the repertoire has in common is that is comes from shows and movies beloved by millions of fans. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!
